20 de abril. O dia internacional da Maconha. Ou Weed Day.

O dia do ano mais importante para os maconheiros e maconheiras de todo mundo. E por que essa data?

Existem diversas crenças em torno da escolha do dia 20 de abril como o dia oficial da maconha. A mais famosa é a da década de 1970, de um grupo de estudantes do ensino médio de San Rafael, no estado norte-americano da Califórnia.

No outono de 1971, cinco adolescentes encontraram um mapa desenhado a mão. E, com ele, supostamente chegariam à localização de uma plantação de maconha em Point Reyes, próximo a San Francisco.

Eles resolveram encontrar o “tesouro” e marcaram de se reunir para a expedição as 4h20 da tarde. Nunca encontraram a plantação, mas a hora do encontro passou a ser um ritual e uma senha para a confraria de amigos. E rapidamente se espalhou para outras rodas de amigos, no que poderíamos chamar de ciclo sem fim.

A história foi descrita Steven Hager, ex-editor do jornal High Times, focado em maconha, ao New York Times.

Uma outra crença comum é que 420 era a polícia da Califórnia ou o código penal para a maconha. Mas não há muitas evidências sobre essa teoria.

Bom, seja como for, 4:20 se tornou universal símbolo da cultura canábica em todo o mundo. Em países onde o consumo adulto da Cannabis já está legalizado, festas e festivais são amplamente promovidos para celebrar o Dia da Maconha.
